Army Medical Operational Data Systems demonstrates best-of-breed

Fairfax, VA. March 13, 2008.

In May 2006, the Army's Medical Operational Data Systems (MODS) investment offered an example of how the DBT is helping identify best-of-breed capabilities and recognizing innovation not just in Central programs, but in Service Medical programs as well. MODS currently provides the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) with an interactive, worldwide operational system to manage AMEDD personnel, logistics, personnel readiness, and Army medical readiness in both peacetime and mobilization. As the MODS program modernizes key components such as Hearing Readiness Classification Tracking, Post Deployment Health Reassessment, Women’s Health Tracking, Vision Readiness Tracking, and Soldier Patient Tracking, the Army’s medical readiness reporting will improve dramatically.

Additionally, by identifying modules in MODS that are similar to that provided by Central and other Service Medical systems, the MHS DBT is helping develop a culture of information sharing that will ultimately bring the best features on to a common platform In the future, the MHS DBT will facilitate transition planning activities that will address the tougher questions of where these capabilities will reside and the method, schedule, and resources required to unify the MHS in these readiness areas.
